・personal project ・ Cordón means rope in creole. In African countries like Cape Verde and Guinea, women use a set of black thread (the cordón/ rope) to form and wrap a thick lock of hair. This method of hair care serves to protect and grow hair and, to complete this traditional ritual, cover the heads with an equally protective scarf. Cordón is the thread that connects several stories and generations, and this project is a bow to women like my grandmother, who make this ritual of taking care of the hair slid with paraffin or coconut oil prevail. Furthermore, it is an almost intimate, cozy, and nostalgic process of hairstyles that I did when I was little and that continues to be passed down from generation to generation in the Afro community.
